Guild member and Katazone expert Karen Miller had offered to teach guild members a Katazome workshop some months ago. Four of our guild members sign up. Over the course of several months, Karen instructed Belinda, Jenny, Donna and Patricia in the art of Katazome (Japanese stencil cutting). They learned about designing stencils, creating stencils to print repeat patterns, cutting stencils for Katazome, using the stencils to brush a paste resist onto fabric, then mixing color pigments into a soy base to apply dye to the fabric. Here are a few photos:
We ended the meeting with members' Show and Tell:
Naomi completed a highly textural Manta Ray art quilt:
Jane completed another small quilt using tea bags as a backdrop for stitched work:
Belinda took two workshops at Quilters Affair in Sisters and showed her projects:
Another great program wrapped up.
